Battle Of Ulsby 20.01.06

This following battle was fought at Staines Wargames Club on 20.01.06.

It's a hypothetical engagement from the 2nd Schleswig War between a Danish rearguard and the pursuing Prussian army. It was played using POW 19thC rules on a 6 foot x 7 foot table. The Danes were tasked with defending the village in order to delay the Prussian advance. To accomplish this they began with 4 battalions and 2 gun batteries on-table, with the promise of another 4 battalions and a cavalry 'division' as reinforcement.

The Danish players were:

  • Alan - CiC and 1st Brigade
  • Tim - Cavalry Division
  • Paul - 2nd Brigade

The Prussians had a simple objective, take the village. They began with 3 battalions and two guns on table, with a cavalry brigade of 3 regiments and 7 more battalions coming on as soon as the game started.

    The Prussian players were

  • Tony - CiC and 12th Rgt
  • Matthew - 13th Rgt plus Westphalian Jagers
  • Adrian - 53rd Rgt plus Cavalry Brigade

    Comments

Although everyone enjoyed the game, especially the interplay of the different weapons and technologies, I feel the Prussians had a much easier time than I intended.
