Valhalla Ulfhednar

Valhalla was founded in 1981/2 by Mike Haywood and was initially based at Peckforton Castle.

Valhalla at Hastings 2008 In 1984 most of the active members joined the Norse Film & Pageant Society (N.F.P.S.) to create the Valhalla Wolfshead and take part in the first modern re-enactment of the Battle Of Hastings.

Apart from events in the UK, since about 1985, Valhalla has regularly attended events in Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Germany, Norway and The Netherlands, and our Blue-and-White shields are now well known across the historic Viking countries as well as the whole of the British Isles. Expeditions like this have led to many close friendships and Valhalla has grown to include members in most of the above countries.

Our philospohy is based on having a good time at events both on the battlefield and afterwards. We are all passionate about the history, but this is a hobby as well, so having a good time is just as important. This dual approach manifests itself in our commitment to regular combat training all year round, as well as regular social events.

Valhalla at Old Sarum In accepting this mix of priorities, we made a conscious decision that we would not take part in Living History Displays, prefering instead to camp away from the LHE, but always be there when the call of "MUSTER !" went out.

Apart from the overseas links, Valhalla has always believed in regular training and maintaining a good relationship with other groups within the Vikings and outside. This is most apparent at our regular Sunday evening training sessions which usually has members of three different local groups in attendance, and at which anyone from any society or group is welcome.
